No Church Services July 6

 Fr. Evan is out of town until July 8. On Sunday, July 6, our parish will not have services. You are welcome to attend St. James Church in Fort Collins that day. Divine Liturgy begins at 9:30 a.m. If you have a special need, please call Tom Brockhagen (970) 231-4741. 

                St. Spyridon Summer Events Coming Up

 St. Spyridon is hosting a variety of summertime events for our church community, friends, visitors and others. Please join us for the following activities.

 ·        1st Annual Basil Sakas Memorial Golf Tournament 

On Saturday, July 12, we will host our 1st Annual Basil Sakas Memorial Golf Tournament at Mariana Butte Golf Course in Loveland. Foursomes for this tournament are being formed. An informational flier, donation form and foursome card are attached to this bulletin. Contact Jason Mantas to register by Tuesday, July 8. He can be reached at 970-219-5315 or jasonmantas@hotmail.com.  A portion of the proceeds from this tournament will go towards our Tornado Relief Fund and the balance will go towards our Education Building Fund.

 ·        Church Picnic

The annual St. Spyridon Picnic will be held Sunday, July 13, immediately following church service at Dwayne Webster Park in Loveland.  The park is located south of Lake Loveland on the corner of 

  • St. Spyridon Youth Group   

We are starting a new ministry at St. Spyridon -- a Youth Group for kids ages 11 and up. The first Youth Group event is a trip to Elitch Gardens in Denver and will take place Sunday, July 27. The Youth Group will depart form St. Spyridon after Divine Liturgy, caravan to Elitchs and return that evening around 8 p.m. Discount tickets for Elitchs are available at your local King Soopers. Chaperones and drivers are needed. If you can help and to register your kids for this event, please contact Sophia Winder, the chair of the Youth Team Ministry, at swinter@grouppublishing.com or Alexa Rempis at akrempis@simla.colostate.edu If your child is close to age 11 and you would like to have them participate, contact Sophia or Fr. Evan.

 ·        Northern Colorado Greek Festival

The third Northern Colorado Greek Festival takes place Friday, Aug. 22, from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. and Saturday, Aug. 23, from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. in

Old Town Square Fort Collins
. Festival planning has begun and many volunteers will be needed this year to continue the success of this major fundraising event on behalf of the church.  A great family event, Greek food and deserts will be served, and dance groups, music, merchandise and a children's area with arts and crafts and face painting will be offered. We continue looking for sponsors, which can be either individuals or businesses. Please contact Katerina Neuhauser at (970) 416-7311 or katerina.neuhauser@gmail.com to help with the event. Volunteer sign-ups will begin soon. The next Greek Festival Meeting will be  Wednesday, July  16, at 6:30 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. Committee chairs, co-chairs and committee members should plan to attend.

 Friends of the Poor Continues Charitable Works

 Friends of the Poor (Philoptochos) conducts philanthropic and charitable work for those in need locally and worldwide, and every parishioner is invited to join this vital ministry of our church. Friends of the Poor is one of the largest Christian women's organizations in the world. Please contact Michelle Mantas at (970) 988-9834 or Lauren Gonikishvili at (970) 324-3573  to learn more.   

  • The next Friends of the Poor All Assembly Meeting is Wednesday, July 30, at 7:15 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall.
  •  Donations for the Poor - You can make donations for people in need throughout our community in the small wooden box near the candles in the narthex of the Church.  We appreciate any donation, big or small, to help these efforts.

                Your Time and Talents are Needed

As the community of St. Spyridon grows in faith and numbers, new opportunities for volunteerism also emerge. Your time and talents are extremely appreciated; please consider serving in the following capacities. If you would like to serve, please contact Father Evan directly at (970) 667-5778 or frevan@stcatherinechurch.org  Examples of opportunities for service include Greeters/Ushers, the Long-Range Planning Committee and others listed here.  

 Cleaning

·    Ever wonder why the Fellowship Hall looks neat, clean and cheerful every week? Parish volunteers! Volunteers are needed to sign up to clean the building on Mondays. If you can help clean the Fellowship Hall on any Monday in the next few months, please contact George Keramidis at george3.3@live.com or sign up in the hall. Volunteer cleaners save the church an average of $360 every month in cleaning costs.       

Church Social Events

·    Parishioners who are interested in helping plan and coordinate church events including the annual summer picnic, the St. Spyridon Feast Day celebration and other activities are asked to contact Angela Palmer at (970) 690-9708.

 Outreach Committee

·    St. Spyridon has formed an Outreach Committee to help get the word out about our church and reach out to new parishioners in our local communities. If you have ideas on promoting our church internally or externally, please contact Dimitria Hurst at dimitria.hurst.bd3g@statefarm.com 

 

 St. Spyridon Education Programs Serve Everyone

 St. Spyridon's education programs, under the leadership of Father Evan, offer opportunities for spiritual growth for all of our parishioners. Church School and Wednesday Fellowship Nights will resume in the fall.

Tuesdays with Father Evan

Adult Bible Study classes and discussion take place every Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., focusing on the Gospel of Saint Matthew. Everyone is invited and welcome to attend.   Class will not be held July 8.  

Church School

A series of summer meetings are taking place to prepare for the new Church School year that begins in September. Anyone interested in participating in our Church School ministry and/or our Youth Ministry Team should contact Sophia Winter at swinter@grouppublishing.com or Fr. Evan.

 

Miscellaneous News & Notes

·    Save your change for the OCMC Coin Box Program. Each year, the Orthodox Christian Mission Charities (OCMC) sends priests and missionaries to minister to people around the world. Please consider supporting the work of the OCMC by participating in the Coin Box Program. Pick up a coin box in the narthex and contribute to it daily with loose change. Once your box is full, you can return it to the church for distribution to OCMC.

  

·    Submit your 2008 stewardship pledge today. If you haven't already, please consider becoming an active contributor to the exciting events taking place at St. Spyridon. Remember, your pledged contribution supports the ministries of this parish. Pick up a stewardship form in the Narthex or see any Parish Council member. We currently have 56 stewarding families.  

                            Special July Church Events

  • Sunday, July 6 -- No church services will be held at St. Spyridon. You are welcome to attend Divine Liturgy at St. James in Fort Collins. Services begin at 9:30 a.m. 
  • Thursday, July 10 - Divine Liturgy at 5 p.m.; Euphemia,the Great Martyr.
